Infrared Sauna Benefits
Near Infrared Therapy and Wound Healing
Nov 12th
One of our associates here at Sunlighten recently had her gallbladder removed by laparoscopic surgery. After her surgery, she ran a little experiment as her incisions healed – using near infrared (NIR) heat from an mPulse heater. Would near infrared heat therapy help her wounds heal faster and/or better?
Now, this was admittedly not a scientific experiment or clinical study but nonetheless, it was a case study with very interesting results!
The associate is a 32 year old female who received daily 80-second NIR treatments from a Sunlighten LED array on 3 wounds resulting from the removal of her gallbladder by laparoscopic surgery. More >
Dr. David Williams: Vibrate Away Joint Pain
Nov 3rd
Dr. David Williams writes America’s longest-running newsletter devoted to alternative medicine. We here at Sunlighten really pay attention to what Dr. Williams has to say about natural therapies and health and wellness.
He recently wrote about vibration therapy and its effect of joint pain. We’re pleased to share his article here:
On a couple of occasions, I’ve reported on the Russians’ study of mechanical vibration to treat a variety of musculoskeletal problems. Their early experiments were performed on military personnel and Olympic athletes.
Most of the research has been conducted using a mechanical vibrating plate upon which an individual stands. When the plate More >

The Benefits of Infrared Sauna Therapy Mark Hyman, MD
Infrared saunas have proven very effective in reducing the stress response and creating balance in the autonomic nervous system. They improve circulation, help with weight loss, balance blood sugar, and improve detoxification—each of which improves your brain function.
Infrared saunas have also been shown to reduce complications and improve cardiac performance in heart disease patients. When the autonomic nervous system is in chronic stress mode, the heartbeat becomes less variable. Normally, there is a subtle variability between beats. If there is more variability in the beat-to-beat rhythm, your heart and nervous system are More >
Stressed Out? Why You Need Massage & Sunlighten Infrared Sauna
Sep 28th
If the New York Times says it’s so, then it’s so. Right?!
We came across an article in the New York Times last week about massage that was quite interesting – mostly because it echoed a lot of what we here at Sunlighten know about the health and stress relief benefits of infrared saunas.
Researchers at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles conducted a study of 53 healthy adults. Twenty-nine of them were given a 45-minute session of deep-tissue Swedish massage; the other 24 received a light massage.
Blood samples were taken immediately before the massage and up to an hour afterward. They found More >
Comparing Traditional Saunas to Infrared Saunas
Aug 26th
If your first thoughts at the word “sauna” are something along the lines of “stifling” and “hard to breathe”, then I’m guessing you’ve never been in an infrared sauna. Sorry to sound sales-pitch-y but the differences between a traditional, “ladle-water-over-hot-rocks” kind of sauna and an infrared sauna really are astounding.
Heat TechnologyA conventional sauna relies on indirect means of heat. The air is heated (convection) and then the hot air makes contact with the user’s skin (conduction). In an infrared sauna, the radiant infrared energy heats the air only slightly, heating the user’s body directly (conversion).
