Sunlighten owner Connie Zack stopped by Randy Alvarez’s Wellness Hour recently for a long talk about infrared saunas. We’ve shared other clips from the longer segment previously (this clip covers the beginnings of Sunlighten saunas) and they’re all worth a watch – this one is about the safety of infrared heat therapy. If you’re unsure or not yet educated on the efficacy and safety of using infrared heat in your daily life, this video is a great introduction to the subject. Randy had some terrific questions (and Connie had great answers!) about how Sunlighten infrared saunas are safe to use every day.

When Karen and her husband decided to invest in their health, they meant business! They own BOTH an mPulse dISCOVER and a Solo System portable infrared sauna from Sunlighten. Karen tries to use her sauna every day and averages about four times a week.
Click below to hear what Karen has to say about her Solo. It’s all about simplicity!
Her husband likes to use the “big sauna” – an mPulse dISCOVER – where he plugs his iPhone in and listens to music while he sweats. They were amazed at the mPulse’s solid construction and easy assembly. Karen was quick to point out that they were very comfortable investing in the mPulse because it (the Solocarbon full spectrum infrared heater) is capable of adjusting to meet their changing health goals and they move through the aging process.
Thanks so much for sharing, Karen!

Corina, a Sunlighten sauna owner, talked with us recently about why she uses her mPulse cONQUER and what results she sees from daily infrared sauna use. She gave this useful Sunlighten sauna review on video to share.
Corina is a busy mom, homeschool teacher and marathon runner (!), so she uses her sauna as a way to relax and get some “me time”. But that’s not the main reason she researched and purchased her Sunlighten sauna, just an added bonus. Corina has psoriasis and after trying every over-the-counter medication and numerous therapies including laser therapy, she decided to try infrared sauna therapy. She tells us that NOTHING works like her sauna. When she uses it an hour a day, she sees no flakes and has no pain in her hands.
As a runner, Corina appreciates the infrared sauna for muscle recovery. She stretches in the sauna, which, according to her, forces her to take the time to really stretch and definitely helps her recovery. She uses the SO Sound Acoustic Resonance Therapy and chromotherapy as well.
Corina tells us that she recommends Sunlighten infrared saunas to everyone. Thanks so much, Corina!

We know that, with summer approaching, many of you are thinking a lot about losing a few pounds. Pool and beach season can be a bit unforgiving. But healthy weight loss is about more than just looking good. Maintaining a healthy weight is an important part of overall wellness.
If you’re looking to lose weight, Sunlighten can help. In a scientific study, our infrared saunas were shown to promote weight loss by burning calories while you relax.
Sunlighten’s goal is to support the health and wellness efforts of our customers – and regular infrared sauna use can be a key component to creating a healthy lifestyle. Weight loss and heart health (two benefits which often go hand-in-hand) are two major benefits of infrared heat therapy.
A 10-year study published by The New England Journal of Medicine found that waist circumference by itself is a critical factor in assessing the risk of premature death.
When it comes to burning calories with infrared heat, only Sunlighten saunas have been clinically shown to dramatically aid in weight loss. Results from a 2009 study indicated that Sunlighten saunas are beneficial for lowering weight and waist circumference in just a 3-month period. And for those who are sedentary due to medical conditions such as osteoarthritis, cardiovascular or respiratory problems, results were even more profound. (1)
Another study showed that 30-minute infrared sauna weight loss sessions can burn upwards of 600 calories. How does this work? During a sauna weight loss session, your core temperature increases and the body works hard to cool itself. There is a substantial increase in heart rate, cardiac output and metabolic rate, causing the body to burn more calories. (2)
Studies have shown that both far- and mid-infrared heat waves are effective in weight loss efforts. Our new full spectrum mPulse infrared saunas offer both far- and mid-infrared settings. We’ve even pre-programmed the mPulse with a weight loss setting, custom blending the infrared output for the most effective use. But you can go even further and adjust the settings to the best custom output for you – on a session-by-session basis.

At Sunlighten, we receive regular inquiries from parents asking about the use of infrared sauna for children, especially those with autism. Not only can Sunlighten therapies provide relief, we are now teaming up with the National Autism Association to provide real help and hope so that those affected can reach their full potential. During Autism Awareness Month in April, Sunlighten donating a portion of sales to NAA!
Why are we at Sunlighten such big supporters of the National Autism Association? Because autism is growing at alarming rates, now the #1 childhood disorder affecting almost 1 in 50 children. As many believe that there are environmental components to many neurological and behavioral health conditions, the detoxification benefits of infrared saunas are often sought after by both parents and health care providers of children on the spectrum.
We talked a little about those detoxification benefits in a blog post, Infrared Sauna Therapy for Autistic Children, here last year. It’s a quick but informative read if you’re looking to learn more about infrared therapy and autism.
While there is no cure for autism, children and adults on the autism spectrum can still live happy and fulfilling lives by finding methods that help to cope with anxiety, sensory issues, sleeping disorders and other related challenges. One method, Acoustic Resonance Therapy (A.R.T.), creates an environment for the body to experience the benefits of sound and vibration healing in an integrative way. Feeling the music we hear brings our bodies into harmony physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and environmentally.
Autism requires a holistic lifestyle approach. Combining infrared therapy and A.R.T. provides a natural, healing environment that can benefit the whole family.
Sunlighten Sauna Benefits:
- Reduces inflammation caused by viral exposure
- Increase blood flow to reduce the body’s hold on toxic metals
- Provides a non-invasive way to detoxify at the cellular level
A.R.T. Benefits:
- Balancing heart rate, blood pressure and increasing circulation
- Energizing and uplifting one’s mood and emotional well being
- Enhanced creativity, communication and problem solving capabilities
- Significant stress reduction, including relief from symptoms of Autism
Sunlighten is making plans to participate in the NAA’s National Autism Conference in November. We’d love to see you there! (And don’t forget – a portion of our sales in the month of April will be donated to the NAA to help them in their efforts to support the needs of the autism community!)

He was very excited and pleased with his sauna – so much so, that he decided to record a video testimonial to share his Sunlighten sauna review with others. Here is part four of his review – covering EMF testing of the Sunlighten Signature sauna and, well, he says a few nice things about the folks here in our offices too. Always nice to hear.

Transcript:
But the biggest selling point, I’ll say, with Sunlighten – besides the wonderful people there – is (a) they’re in Kansas. They’re salt-of-the-earth people. They send their stuff out to Vietnam to get the furniture made because they care, they want to do stuff that’s different. And the heaters.
You know, there’s only two companies that I could find out there that actually sent their heaters, which are carbon heaters, out to a testing agency in Virginia to actually get the EMFs tested on their units.
And I actually did a little bit of research and actually called the place where they sent their carbon heaters to. And it’s a third-party. It’s a guy who – it’s a company – the guy who did the testing is a scientist – but it’s a company that does basically all the EMF testing, electromagnetic fields and some other radiation testing for agencies around the government.
And what they’re trying to do is they’re trying to get the government to lower their safe standards from 10, which is what the US allows, to 3, which is what Sweden allows. And currently, I talked to the guy independently and he had really good things to say about both of the companies that sent their heaters out but he said that Sunlighten’s heaters were the lowest. They were less than 1, consistently.
So, he would set his tester all the way around here and consistently all these carbon heaters were only putting out not even close to 1 EMF, which is 2 lower than what Sweden’s accepted standard is, which is the lowest in the world. The accepted standard for the US is 10.
So, like I said, that made me feel really really comfortable. After that, they took the care to send their heaters out there and that they actually, you know, I could put my kids in here. I can come in here and not worry that I’m getting cooked in a radiation box.
It’s something where people have actually taken the care to stand behind their product and that’s what’s really important to me.
For the price, you’re really not paying that much more than what you would for the hemlock box where you could get cancer, you have no clue what the radiation is from their heaters, you have no clue if the heaters are even gonna work well, how consistent the heat is. And then the wood itself is inferior wood. You don’t know if it has VOCs in it that are being emitted into your body. You don’t know anything about it. They send them out to China. It’s all kinda the same thing. The quality control is dubious at best.
So, I’ve just felt really comfortable with my Sunlighten. So far, I have had it for three weeks now. Three weeks and I’ve used it almost every night pretty much. So much so that my wife is getting mad at me because I’m taking showers late at night and waking her up in bed because I’m down here getting so sweaty, I’ve gotta wash off before I get in bed.

Sunlighten Sauna Customer Review – Part 3

Just a couple other things that really sold me on this sauna were the fact that it doesn’t look like all the other saunas out there that are all made in the same factory in China where there’s a door right in the middle, there may or may not be glass on each side, you get in, there’s a seat, the seat has heaters down here, and everything looks exactly the same.
This one is really nice because this seat…well, let me tell you, first of all, this one I believe is 53 inches wide and that width is no joke. I mean, I think the other saunas I was comparing were only 48 inches wide. So, you’ve got a good five inches difference here.
So, if you can see here, I’ve got my handy-dandy backrest. This does not come with the sauna but you can get them pretty much anywhere. You know I can sit here and sit up really easily. Just like that. And I think that’s really great. Because I’m 6’3”. So I’m a pretty tall guy. And so being able to sit like this – I tried to do this in one of the saunas of the competitors, one of the little hemlock ones that are only 48 inches wide, and there was no doing it.
Plus, the seat, the depth of the seat is so much more. I think a lot of the other ones were only 18 inches. This one, I’m pretty sure, is up to 20. You can see there’s plenty of room for you just to sit back. You know, my knees are all the way to the back here. And like I said, I’m a pretty big guy.
So, it’s very, very roomy inside. Much roomier – I actually thought I was going to get it and it was gonna be, I was gonna feel a little cramped – much roomier than I ever would’ve thought. Especially compared to when I sat in some of the other saunas.
The other thing I really liked about it was the glass door. You’ll see it right here. The glass door on this thing makes it look really, really high end. It’s just a different, very clean, spa-look to your sauna. Rather than just a small door with windows on the side. This one just looks way different. And that thing, it’s really heavy. But it’s very good quality and it’s tempered and I just really, really like it.

Okay, we got the ceiling in, after making the connections. And it was ready to go. All I did was plug it into my outlet.
I have a dedicated outlet that’s run for this. It’s not a 220. It’s only a 120. But it is 20 amp. They say you can run it on 15 amp but I would do 20 amp if I were you. Just to make sure you’re pulling enough electricity to get this sucker as hot as you want it to go.
On the panel that you see over here, you turn it on. It’s real easy. And right away, it’ll say how many minutes you want to do and how hot. The panel says 150 degrees. So you always set it to that.

Sunlighten Sauna Customer Review – Part 1
Sunlighten infrared saunas customer review
Transcript:
I’m sitting here in my brand new Signature Restore from Sunlighten and I just want to tell you a little bit about it, how easy it was to set up and how happy we are with it so far. We got the package in from the shipper. There were two packages and they were pretty big. We opened them up and everything was packed unbelievably. The styrofoam that it came in was around every single piece, there wasn’t a scratch on anything.
I just want to start with what I perceived as the quality of the wood. We took those suckers out, this is solid wood. If you’ve been to any of these retail stores that sell saunas, that have the cheap Hemlock wood, there’s no comparison. I saw one that I could almost push it over. This thing right here, there is no pushing it over. This is solid.
They make it in Vietnam, which where companies like Restoration Hardware and Pier 1 get all their furniture made rather than China. And that’s what sold me in terms of the wood – that they don’t make it in China, that they make it in Vietnam. And let me tell you this is some thick wood and it’s really really well crafted. It feels furniture grade. That’s kinda what the people at Sunlighten sold me on and they delivered. I believed it when I saw it.
Then we put it together. They say you can put it together with two people. I would say you probably need at least 3 or 4. Just saying that. Sorry Sunlighten but there’s some big sheets in there and it’s pretty heavy. And you know, this is good stuff. You don’t want these to get broken. You don’t want them to get scratched. You just paid the money to do this and you want to keep this for a long, long time.
So I had my family here. I had my brother-in-laws and my dad and my father-in-law. We put down the base first, exactly where we wanted it. And then we put down the back panel. And there’s these slats on the floor that are clearly outlined and that’s where you drop it right in. Have one person hold it. Go grab the other panel. Drop in the left panel. And there’s a little staple up in the top, here in the corner where it bridges the gap between the two and kinda holds it in. I shouldn’t say a little staple. It’s really a thick gauge staple. And then you put in the front panel, here with the glass door which is a beautiful glass door. And then you put in, lastly, this panel.
You gotta make sure, there’s a little panel down here on the floor that you take off to connect the floor heater. There’s a floor heater. And all the electricity you just need to make the connections. And then in the ceiling, there’s a couple places where you need to make connections for all the heaters. So, heater here – there’s a connection up there that you need to make. Heater here – there’s a connection up there you need to make. Heaters here – connections. And then in the front, there’s a small heater as well.
So, there’s 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 heaters but this is probably an extra one – so I’d probably say that’s six heaters. And I’ll tell you a little bit more about the performance later.
Stay tuned for the rest of Jeremy’s Sunlighten infrared saunas review!
